Detalhes do Projeto

CONSTRUCTION AND INSTALLATION OF THE PERMANENT TRACK SUPERSTRUCTURE OF THE VLT CARIOCA LIGHT-RAIL SYSTEM

Client: Concessionária do VLT Carioca S/A
Location: Rua Cordeiro da Graça, 158 – Santo Cristo – Rio de Janeiro – RJ – Brazil
Conclusion Year: 2016

The VLT Carioca light-rail system connects Rio de Janeiro city center to the Port Area (Old center) with 28 km and 32 stops. The project strengthens the concept of public transport integrating the different means of transport: Subway, trains, ferries, cable car, BRT, conventional bus networks and the airport (Santos Dumont). Rio’s VLT will be one of the world’s first light-rail systems designed entirely without overhead lines, as power will be supplied by the APS (ground-level power supply) system, which is like a third rail, already implemented successfully in some European cities.
