Teixeira Duarte elected the most attractive company to work for in the Construction and Infrastructure sector

The Employer Brand Research 2022 conducted by Randstad in Portugal revealed that Teixeira Duarte is the most attractive company to work for in the Construction and Infrastructure sector.

This independent study, which was carried out for the 7th consecutive year, analyses the population’s perception of the 150 largest employers in the country, revealing the top 3 most recognised companies in each sector of activity. The study also makes it possible to identify the most relevant criteria in an employment decision and the best strategies for employer branding management.

Teixeira Duarte present at the Reabilitar & Betão Estrutural 2020 Congress

Teixeira Duarte – Engenharia e Construções, S.A. was present in the Reabilitar & Betão Estrutural 2020 Congress, held between 3 and 5 November 2021, at the Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil (LNEC), in Lisbon.

This congress, organized with the support of the Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil (LNEC), the Ordem dos Engenheiros (Portuguese Engineers’ Order) and the Ordem dos Arquitectos (Portuguese Architects’ Order), is a continuation of the National Meetings on Structural Concrete promoted biennially by GPBE and of the National Meetings on Structural Conservation and Rehabilitation (REPAR 2000 and Reabilitar 2010) organized by APEE. It intends to be a privileged forum for the dissemination and joint discussion of the topics usually treated separately in these two events, thus bringing together the most recent and innovative achievements in the field of structural concrete, as well as in the field of rehabilitation of structures of any type of material, namely masonry constructions or with timber, steel or concrete structure.

Among the various sessions of this congress, we highlight the presentation of the Rehabilitation of the Hercílio Luz Bridge in Florianópolis, Brazil made by Eng. João Pedro Lopes from Teixeira Duarte, who addressed the most complex and original technical aspects of this contract, from the strengthening of the foundations of the central columns to the entire procedure created for the replacement of the suspension elements of the central span – catenary and pendular cables – as well as the description of the technology used for the annulment of stresses in these elements (before replacement) and their reentry into load (after replacement) and the monitoring system implemented in order to measure, among other quantities, stresses and deformations of the structure, particularly during the critical operations of manipulating the deformation of the central span.

SOMAFEL and TEIXEIRA DUARTE execute the biggest new railway line work in the last 100 years in Portugal

The consortium led by SOMAFEL – Engenharia e Obras Ferroviárias, S.A. and in which Teixeira Duarte – Engenharia e Construções, S.A. also participates, was awarded the contract for the Railway Track and Catenary between Évora and Elvas/Fronteira and the construction of the subsection between Évora and Évora Norte. The work assignment was signed on 14 July at the headquarters of Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) for an amount of 87 million euros and provides for an execution period of 935 days.

The contract work includes the construction of the track and catenary superstructures between Évora and Elvas/Fronteira, and civil construction – general works – of the Évora – Évora Norte subsection, in the new Évora Line. Considered the largest new railway line work in the last 100 years in Portugal, the Évora – Évora Norte subsection is part of the new Évora Line, which is about 100 kilometres long, of which 90 kilometres are completely new, between this city and the Linha do Leste, on the connection with Spain. The work is part of the Portuguese Southern International Corridor, within the scope of the Ferrovia2020 Programme.

The main works in the project are:

  • Construction of a new railway channel;
  • Construction of fixed electrical traction installations necessary for electrification;
  • Construction of the Xarrama, Degebe and Vale Figueira railway bridges;
  • Railway track, allowing for speeds of 250 km/h;
  • Catenary systems, allowing for speeds of 300 km/h;
  • Installation of the infrastructure for electronic signaling and telecommunications;
  • Installation of the traction return system.

The new railway channel under construction between Évora and the East Line, connecting to the Spanish border, was created as part of an evolutionary development of the railway connections to Spain, in the framework of the Trans-European Transport Network ( RTE-T) and of the railway connection of cargo between the Portuguese ports and the rest of Europe, ensuring from the very beginning a passenger connection.

Teixeira Duarte creates Concrete Armature Production Centre at its Montijo Operational Centre

Teixeira Duarte – Engenharia e Construções, S.A. created a new production support area at its Montijo Operational Centre. Inaugurated in 2011, the Teixeira Duarte Operational Centre in Montijo is installed in an area of over 130,000 m² and includes areas dedicated to metalworking activities, areas for work on equipment, a Materials Laboratory, a Concrete Production Centre, among other operational support structures.

The operational unit now created – the Armature Production Centre (CPA) – aims to industrialize the activities of preparing, cutting and shaping steel for reinforcement assembly.

For this purpose, the CPA is equipped with different mechanisms and technological solutions that automate the various construction processes, freeing a large part of the manual work associated with them and contributing to an increase in efficiency and productivity on site.

The first contract to integrate prefabricated elements by the CPA is the construction work of the “BigCity Asprela” university residence in Porto.
