REHABILITATION OF THE RAILWAY BRANCH OF THE PORT OF SINES

Client: APS – Administração dos Portos de Sines e do Algarve, S.A.
Location: Terminal XXI – ZIL3 – TCS Terminal Contentores Sines – Portugal
Execution Period: 9 Months

The works carried out in the railway branch of the port of Sines was part of the intervention to broaden the capacity of the reception / expedition hub, giving the said branch a higher capacity and performance and allowing for the operation of 750 m long trainsets. The main alterations to be introduced were the re-adjustment of the western side of the reception / expedition hub – in particular Line I that was given a length compatible with the operation of 750 m long trainsets; the creation of a 4th in the existing reception / expedition hub, parallel to Line III, with capacity to operate trainsets with the said length; the creation of the necessary infrastructure to allow, in the future, for the construction of a 5th Line, parallel to Line IV; the creation of a new access line that, beginning at the existing one will make it possible to connect to the new loading / unloading zone of the existing Terminal ; the creation of a connection the east end of the reception hub and the new access line; the creation of a new reversion end to replace the existing one; the creation of a new siding end to park rolling stock; and also the insertion of a TJD (transversal double junction) allowing for the connection between (siding / reception hub) and the future access lines and reversion line, as well as to the siding line.
