The construction site of the Harbour in the Fishing Zone of Angeiras, being carried out by Teixeira Duarte – Engenharia e Construções, S.A., welcomed the Minister for Maritime Affairs, Ana Paula Vitorino on 25 June. The construction of the pier at the port of Angeiras, stretching 488 metres, is intended to provide better harbour and safety conditions to vessels when navigating their approach and departure for fishing, and should be completed within 18 months.
The work started in July 2018 and was suspended in October due to adverse weather conditions. After restarting in March 2019, the works have been completed on schedule, and the body of the pier is almost completed using rockfill (rocks used to contain the sea).
The next phases of the works will include completing constructing the head of the pier using “antifer-type” 10-tonne concrete blocks and construction of the concrete superstructure in the crown, throughout the entire length of the structure. A light will also be installed at the end of the pier for maritime signalling.
After the “Remodelling Works of the Western Pier of the Tavira Sandbar”, concluded in December 2017, this is another landmark maritime project in Portugal. A new undertaking is now being looked at, and is already under contract: the “Extension of the Interior Breakwater at Peniche Port”. The work will be carried out by Docapesca – Portos e Lotas, S.A., and is expected to start this September.
