Teixeira Duarte’s “Dar Vida” Program kicks off in Mozambique

“Dar Vida”, a social responsibility program of the Teixeira Duarte Group created in Angola, has now been implemented in Mozambique, a country that also has a high risk of shortage of blood reserves. The first blood collection session took place yesterday in Maputo, with the support of the Central Hospital Blood Bank, and was attended by 23 employees of Teixeira Duarte – Engenharia e Construções.

This program aims to contribute to increasing the blood reserve of the health systems of these markets, encouraging regular voluntary blood donation among the employees of Teixeira Duarte Group companies, through awareness of the importance of voluntary donation and the creation of conditions for effective donation.

Conceived and launched in 2019 by Teixeira Duarte – Engenharia e Construções in Angola, in partnership with the Clínica Sagrada Esperança, “Dar Vida” was adopted by several other sectors of activity in this country during 2020, where 7 blood collection sessions have already been held, for a total of 106 employees.

Did you know that each blood donation can save up to 3 lives?(1)
According to official sources, each blood donation of approximately 450ml can be treated for use in a wide range of pathologies, helping to live or save the lives of up to 3 people.

It is thus estimated that under this program, voluntary donors from the Teixeira Duarte Group will have helped 387 people in Angola and Mozambique.

Certification of Teixeira Duarte’s Concrete Production Centre

The Concrete Production Centre (CPB) of Teixeira Duarte – Engenharia e Construções, S.A., located in the Montijo Operational Centre, recently obtained Certification of Production Control according to European Standard EN206-1:2007 + Amendment 1:2008 + Amendment 2:2010, and is now able to respond to any type of concrete and inspection classes required by the most demanding projects.

The CPB was created in 2019 with the aim of increasing the competitiveness and autonomy of the Company’s contracts, having produced to date 65,000 m3 of concrete serving a universe of 28 contracts in the Greater Lisbon region.

Teixeira Duarte – Engenharia e Construções concludes work to reinforce the foundations and structures for the platform (anti-seismic safety) on the Lisbon riverfront

Teixeira Duarte – Engenharia e Construções, S.A., through the area of Geotechnics and Rehabilitation | Maritime Works, concluded, for the Lisbon Tourism Association, the contract of Reinforcement of the Foundations and Structures for the Platform (anti-seismic safety) between the cruise terminal and Terreiro do Paço in Lisbon, an intervention that is part of a group of several rehabilitation and requalification works of the riverside front of the capital and that covered two projects with a total duration of 150 days:

  1. Platform and West Wall

This project aims to reformulate the riverfront on the western edge of the South and Southeast Pier, restoring the original limit, drawn with reference to the wall of dating and the western facade of the tower to the east of the Praça do Comércio (current tower of Finance).

The intervention consisted of the execution of the piles that constitute the foundation of the future platform and west wall.

The platform and western wall will occupy a total area of about 900 m2, with development of 90.00 m and a maximum width of 15.40 m.

The intervention area had, in a great part of its area, a landfill with rockfill protection, as a result of the execution of the station and the western tunnel of the metro. This embankment allowed the execution of 40 piles with the use of hydraulic equipment to drill the rotation with a kelly rod and provisional coating of the hole through recoverable intubation. In the southwest corner, there was a small stretch of the original pier, built in the middle of the 20th century. Within the scope of this project, and given its apparent poor state of conservation, it was necessary to carry out its complete demolition and, using appropriate means, it was possible to execute the remaining 20 piles in a marine environment using definitive metallic tube crimping through vibrofonceur and excavation with mechanical grab.

  1. South Reinforcement, to be integrated into the South and Southwest Pier

As part of the rehabilitation of the riverfront, this project aims to reformulate the area of influence between the South and Southwest River Station of Architect Cottinelli Telmo and the existing wharf, whose construction of the embankment dates back to the first half of the 20th century.

The reinforcement executed aims to contribute to the minimization of the impacts associated with liquefaction and/or cyclic mobility phenomena in the alluvium in case of seismic action, consisting of the execution of piles headed by a reinforced concrete slab. In the service phase, the platform will be used for pedestrian circulation in that area.

The southern platform will occupy a total area of about 1,220 m2, with development of 95.00 m and a maximum width of 15.80 m.

The type of reinforcement solution adopted is identical to the one already applied in the area to the east of the South and Southeast River Terminal, i.e. the area of Transtejo station. This solution consisted of the execution of pile alignment by fully crossing the alluvium and penetrating the Miocene substrate to mobilize the maximum cutting effort in each pile. In general, the reinforcement consists of 4 parallel alignments to the river of 1.20 m diameter piles away from 5.0 m. The distance between alignments is 3.0 m. The piles are arranged in quincunx to maximize the arc effect on the ground and thus maximize the associated reinforcement effect. The methodology applied to the execution of the 74 piles made on the existing embankment was the use of rotation drilling equipment with a kelly rod and provisional coating of the hole through recoverable intubation.
